About EMDR

EMDR is a trauma-focused intervention developed and taught by Francine Shapiro. Since its discovery in 1977, EMDR has helped countless people find resolution with their trauma. There are now over 200,000 EMDR practitioners in the world of which roughly ten percent are certified. I am a certified EMDR practitioner.

EMDR–Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing–is a technique based on the idea that traumas that we suffer become locked in the body. The style of questioning and the eye movements can unlock the trauma and allow reprocessing and desensitization to take place. The goal being to become “ok” with past trauma.

I have had some wonderful successes with EMDR and highly recommend it for trauma, whether recent or past.

EMDR online

After some research and testing I am now offering EMDR online. The practice has a very different feel online but is nonetheless effective. Especially in these times where much old insecurity and trauma are reactivated by current events and the loneliness that many of us are committed to due to quarantine and social distancing. I strongly recommend EMDR to alleviate the suffering of these reawakened traumas.

Is this for you?

This may be a good fit if you recognize any of the following.

  • You feel inspired in the moment but slip back into old patterns when alone.
  • You act from beliefs you have never really examined, or are not sure you agree with.
  • You grew up in a conflicted household and still carry the confusion.
  • You want a therapist who will meet you on your terms.

How it works

  1. Get in touchSend a short note about what brings you here and we can arrange a first session. What to expect at your first visit.
  2. Realizing and analyzing beliefsTogether we map the beliefs behind how you live, and which ones you want to keep.
  3. Practice between sessionsIf it suits you, simple self-interventions carry the work into your week. If not, we simply process your material together.

“People often feel great and inspired during the session, then sink back into old patterns when alone. The work between sessions is the bridge.”

Questions

What happens in the first session?

We talk about what brought you to therapy and what you hope will change. There is no pressure to share more than you are ready to. More about your first visit.

Can we meet online?

Yes. Most sessions now take place online by video, at the same rate as in-person therapy. In-person sessions in the garden office remain an option.

Do I have to do exercises between sessions?

No. Some clients find the self-interventions helpful; others prefer to simply process their material in session.

Are there animals at the office?

Yes: doves, finches, chickens and a dog. Let me know if you would prefer to meet without them.
